Sourton Tors, Dartmoor

Sourton Tors Dartmoor Fine Art Print

This painting is of our nearest part of Dartmoor. Sourton Tors (pronounced ‘sore-ton’) is a local beauty spot where people come to walk and explore and is much loved by the people of Okehampton in particular. I’ve sold paintings of Sourton Tors to Okehampton residents before.

The rock here is limestone, not granite as just a few miles further away. Known as ‘Black Limestone’ it doesn’t alter the vegetation very much and the acid-loving plants that grow on it are similar to those on the granite. There is not much heather but this may be more likely due to historical overgrazing than to the soil acidity.

Sourton Tors is well worth a visit and it’s not too high to reach the top comfortably. There are wild ponies as well as sheep and stout moorland cattle.

This is a giclee fine art print which has been hand-signed and individually numbered by Lawrence Dyer, the artist. It is mounted in a cream mount, ready for you to frame. This is a limited edition fine art print numbering only 195 pieces.
