Trebarwith Strand by Lawrence Dyer

Trebarwith Strand

‘Trebarwith Strand’ is a limited edition art print of an oil painting by Lawrence Dyer.

This painting depicts Trebarwith Strand in North Cornwall with an incoming tide. The tide moves quickly here, rapidly covering the smooth flat sand and filling the whole bay right up to the narrow walkway between the rocks that leads back up to the village. On a high tide it crashes up this walkway, making the beach and roc areas completely inaccessible.

In the painting we see the dramatic slate cliffs and rocks with the fast incoming tide creeping speedily between them. It is a place where people can easily be cut off by the tide if they are on one of the series of outlying beaches so care must be taken.

Trerwith Strand is very dramatic with its bold cliffs and Gull Rock (not visible in the painting) 600 metres out to sea. Due to its stunning nature Trebrwith has been used as a location in various films. For example, “Oscar and Lucinda” (1997) and Saving Grace (2000) both used this location.

The Cornish for Trebarwith Strand is Trebervedh Sian.
